Entrepreneurship Surges as Canadians Embrace Business Ownership

Entrepreneurship is on the rise globally, with increasing numbers of people leaving traditional jobs to build businesses of their own. This trend is particularly prominent in Canada, where factors like economic disruptions, remote work, and the desire for flexibility are fueling a surge in business ownership, as noted in the 2024 RBC Small Business Poll.

The poll reveals that 93% of current and aspiring Canadian entrepreneurs are motivated by meaningful work, surpassing financial gain as a primary driver. Flexibility is another key factor, with 46% starting businesses to spend more time with children and 40% citing caregiving for aging parents as a motivator. These shifts reflect a growing focus on personal fulfillment and work-life balance.

Cross-border collaboration between Canada and the U.S. further amplifies the impact of entrepreneurship, driving innovation and economic growth in both nations. As businesses expand, they create new opportunities for partnerships and investments, fostering the development of new industries and markets.

Entrepreneurship has become an accessible path for people from all walks of life, supported by technology and government initiatives that lower barriers to entry and empower individuals to pursue their passions.
