Over 60 participants attended Abigail’s “Believing in Women and Investing in their Ideas” conference last Saturday at Pepoy’s Restaurant and Cafe in Susupe. Focused on supporting aspiring female entrepreneurs, the event featured presentations by business owners Angie Lee, Caroline Jones, Ceaşar Supetran, and Bong Malasarte, along with a Q&A session and an inspirational message.
Femie Rey, Abigail’s president and co-founder, shared that the conference aligned with the organization’s fourth anniversary and its mission to empower women and their families. This year’s business-centric theme was inspired by member requests for guidance on entrepreneurship, especially in light of the CNMI’s economic challenges. Speakers discussed their journeys, challenges, and strategies for success in business.
Abigail’s, founded during the COVID-19 pandemic, aims to prevent domestic violence and provide a supportive environment for women and children. Rey emphasized that by equipping women with tools and resources for financial independence, the organization helps reduce stress in families, alleviating factors that can lead to conflict and violence.
The organization also hopes to expand collaborations with local businesses and individuals to offer skill-building opportunities for women. Rey expressed gratitude for the event’s turnout and shared her commitment to continuing these efforts. The group’s name, derived from the biblical character Abigail, symbolizes their mission through values like advocacy, brilliance, intelligence, and love.
